What is the 12th Avenue Initiative?
Capitol Hill Housing, (known as CHHIP), in collaboration with the communities of the Central Area and Capitol Hill, has recently undertaken this community development project to better the business district along 12th Avenue, between E John and E Yesler Way. This Initiative has four major goal areas:
1. Ensuring diversity and affordability of residential and
commercial space
2. Anchoring small businesses
3. Improving the pedestrian environment
4. Strengthening community involvement in planning and development processes
Within these goal areas we are working on specific projects including: advocating for better public transportation, bringing more parks to the neighborhood, adding pedestrian amenities to the street, and developing affordable housing and commercial spaces on 12th.
